Thank goodness for my terrific guest bloggers, or my content would be pretty sparse these days. I’m neck deep in preparations for the 2008 Mount Hermon Christian Writers Conference. I first attended in 1999, then again in 2001. I’ve always wanted to return, and finally this year my friend and critique partner, Carla Stewart, convinced me we should go together. What I love about Mount Hermon is the relaxed, “weekend retreat” atmosphere. Jeans and sneakers are a common sight--not the same concerns about dressing for success you encounter at conferences like ACFW or RWA, because almost everybody’s just as casually attired as you are.
I also love the approachability of the faculty--editors, agents, multi-published authors. Our keynote speaker this year is Debbie Macomber, which is a special treat for me because she presented me my Golden Heart when I won my category at RWA in 2005.
The hardest part for me is just releasing my anxiety and letting God take me where He wants me throughout the conference. Divine appointments, one of my friends has called them. He is in a much better position to know which encounters will bring the greatest blessing (to me, or to the people I meet).
I am so in tune with what you are going through. Excited about going with you to MH, nervous about what I'm submitting, and TRYING to let it all rest in God's hands. I can't wait to hear Debbie Macomber again, too. She's one of those infectiously optimistic people that inspire me to hang in there. I need a dose of that right now.
