A Little More Random Romance

Back from the doctor and my knee is getting better every day! So no more excuses (well, not too many, anyway).

Kind of goes along with Margie Lawson’s advice from last Friday. Just like checking the daily weather report, we can check in with our spouse and find out the “weather” of their current mood and respond accordingly. And of course it’s never any good insisting somebody snap out of a bad mood, but a little TLC can sure speed up the process.

By the way, has anyone been brave enough to try Margie’s “surprise date” idea from her October post? Once I get past all this knee surgery stuff, I’d sure like to give it a try. (Or maybe hope my husband will exercise some initiative of his own--HINT, HINT!!)

My husband doesn't 'surprise' well.
I might try it though. I can usually get him to do stuff by telling him one of our DAUGHTERS wants him to do it. :)
I love that line about forever love not changing with the weather, but choosing how to respond. Very wise.

Knee Surgery, Day 6 Nothing like being a temporary partial invalid. Since last Wednesday I’ve enjoyed a delightful vacation from cooking, grocery shopping, laundry, vacuuming, etc. My dear husband has been an absolute sweetheart about taking over those responsibilities. If not for my sweet little MacBook, though, I’d have felt pretty isolated. The occasional necessary trip upstairs to my office takes a lot more time and effort these days. Everyone who’s had this type of surgery (remove torn cartilage, smooth rough areas from kneecap) has told me recovery is usually quick and easy. My worst day, pain-wise, was Saturday, after the local anesthetics finally wore off. Every day has been better since. I never even needed to use the crutches. What’s really fun is this clever little “ice machine” the hospital sent home with me. It circulates 49-degree water through a knee wrap that I wear for 30-45 minutes every couple of hours. I have my follow-up appointment tomorrow, so I’m anxious to get the doctor’s report and find out how soon I can expect to get back to normal activities. Although . . . if I milk this a little longer . . . maybe my hubby will become such a pro in the kitchen that I’ll never have to cook again!

Myra asked for the most memorable romantic moment with my husband. That’s tough because we’ve had numerous romantic evenings—at least since the kids grew up and left home. Of course, there have been times my husband missed the mark. Like on my birthday several years ago. My father was ill. We were at the hospital, too concerned to think about a gift. But my husband had remembered to buy a card. Inside he’d scrawled the promise of a bouquet of flowers every month all year long. I suspected they’d come from the grocery store, but I didn’t care. Saving money made sense, especially with one child in college. I was deeply touched by his thoughtfulness and the delightful prospect of seeing him walk in the door bearing a bouquet. The first month arrived—and passed. No flowers. I asked him about them and he said, “I thought you’d pick them up when you did the shopping.” Thankfully, there were other times. ☺ Like one Saturday evening a few years ago. We had no plans, so he grilled steaks and we enjoyed a candlelit dinner in the dining room. Romantic music played softly in the background. We’d finished eating when “Unforgettable,” a favorite song we always dance to at weddings, came on the stereo. Without a word, my husband rose....
