A few minutes ago I returned the first round of my One Im-Perfect Christmas revisions to my editor, Barbara Scott, at Abingdon Press. Since returning from the ACFW conference on September 22, I’ve hardly been able to think of anything else--four solid weeks of poring over my manuscript with an eye for both the big picture and the smallest word.
I have to say I think it’s a better book now. The real question is, will my editor agree? She had so many solid suggestions for what it needed, many of which didn’t surprise me because in the back of my mind they were areas I already suspected needed work.
Why didn’t I make those changes sooner? Mainly because, after countless critiques and conflicting contest judges’ opinions, I no longer had a clue which changes would actually carry this book to a publishable level.
Praise God I found an editor willing to look beyond the obvious weaknesses and then patiently guide me through the process of correcting them in the best way for this story.
While I await the next steps on the journey to seeing my book in print, I feel both relieved and overwhelmed. Now I’m anxious to incorporate everything I just learned into all my other manuscripts. Where to start???
Hmmm, maybe with a massage and a soak in the hot tub to get these kinks out of my neck!
